Speaking Part 1
Speaking - part 1. PROCEDURE
- 1. After checking your ID the examiner will start the Part 1 of the test.
- 2. The examiner will say: “Now, I am going to ask you a few general questions’.
- 3. The examiner will ask three or four questions according to different topics. The examiner will then introduce the topic by saying something you like:
‘” Now , let’s talk about where you live”
Make sure you pay attention to the keywords the
examiner uses to introduce the topic. This is because you will have three or
four questions based on the this topic and you want to be clear what the topic
is about.
4.
The examiner will ask you three or four
questions based on the topic, such as:
Do you live in a house or an apartment?
Which room do you like the most in your home?
In the future, what sort of home would you like to live in?
5.
When the examiner has finished asking you three
or four questions based on the topic,
the examiner will move onto the next topic, by saying something else:
“ Now let’s talk about your hobbies and interests”
6.
After three sets of topics (each with three of
four questions) the examiner will finish part 1 and move onto part 2 of the
test. Note that part one of the test lasts 4-5 mins. If you give longer
answers, it is possible that may you only get 2 topics. This could be an
advantage because there is less chance of getting an unfamiliar topics.
How long is IELTS
speaking 1?
Speaking part 1 is 4 to 5 minutes in length for
12 questions. If you are speaking fluently then you will be able to give longer
answers. If you often hesitate or fumble when you answer, then you will waste time and
your answers will need to be shorter.
How to answer in
speaking part 1?
IELTS speaking part 1 is mostly about you and your life. If
the question asks about YOU, you must answer about YOU – not
about people in general. The questions are often very simple and basic in part
1, such as “Do you like …”.
For example:
EXAMINER: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?
CANDIDATE: BLUE, I THINK.
EXAMINER: WHY? CANDIDATE: I DON’T KNOW. l I JUST LIKE IT.
This means you should be straight forward and give a natural answer. But you shouldn’t to be so blunt and if you are giving the answer about YOU then it’s better to give a reason regarding your Statement.

BETTER RESPONSE:
Examiner: What’s your favorite color?
Candidate: Blue, I think. yeah, blue, because it reminds me of the ocean and the sky. I FEEL calm when I see the COLOR blue. I like to WEAR blue- it also looks good ON ME.
Examiner: What’s your favorite color?
Candidate: Blue, I think. yeah, blue,
